The Road w/ Anna Part 10
He took up both of her hands in his, “There’s funny thing about not knowing what to do. Something usually happens to where you do. When Kate showed up I didn’t know where to go for I still had feelings for her but not enough for me to forgive her. Then I realized that it had been over since the moment I walked out onto that balcony where you were strumming that old guitar singing your heart out. That was when I knew that she could never understand me in the way that you did. I couldn’t see myself dealing with her always coming back and just act as if all was forgiven for all the hurt she caused me. I will admit that I wanted to hurt you the same way that you hurt me but then that would just have made things more difficult when it would ruin any chances of having you. I even wrote a song for tonight when I had hoped that you would be there but I couldn’t once I found out that you weren’t coming.”
“There’s still enough time to get back so you can. I mean it’s only eight and it doesn’t start until ten thirty or so.” Ana said with a sigh as she looking into his eyes hopefully.
“Do you really want me to, Ana?” He asked as a flicker of a smile came across his face.
She cocked her head to the side, “You’ve been practicing for months to have the courage to stand in front of a crowd so why give up now when you can?”
“Trouble is the song I’m doing is a duet and I don’t have a partner who has the right voice for it.” He said, as the smile grew wider.
“Then I guess I’ll just have to fill in if that’s alright with you.” She whispered softly to him as he took a step closer to her.
“Are you sure you really want to do this? I mean some parts might make you cry if you’re not careful.” He whispered back as she answered with a kiss.
Two hours later they were behind the large stage getting ready for their performance. They held hands as they felt both of their nerves begin to rise while they tried to calm each other down. Dmitri came back stage before they went up and nodded at the both of them.
“I just wanted to wish you both good luck out there. Your professors seem pretty tough on the others but if I know Ana like I do then she’ll try to make it as bearable as possible.” He teased slightly as he tapped her shoulder with a fist, “Trent, I just wanted to say that there’s no hard feelings. You’ve got a great girl next to you so if you ever want to hear any embarrassing stories just come to me because I’ve got tons to tell.”
Trent smirked slightly as he looked over at Ana, “I think I’ll be fine but thanks anyway. You should stay and watch the show.” Dmitri shook his head as Trent gave him a look that stopped him cold, “I insist. You don’t want to disappoint Ana here do you? She is after all your best friend.”
“Guess I’ll go find a seat then.” Dmitri said as he headed out the side door.
“You really didn’t have to do that, Trent. I’ve given him enough reason to hate me as it is without you’re dominance playing tricks on him.” Ana said to him as she read over the lyrics once more.
“He’s your friend, Ana, so he should stay and watch you sing.” Trent said with a nudge of her shoulder, “Even if he doesn’t want to see you with me.”
They walked on stage carrying guitars as everyone in the room quickly went silent. They took one look at each other as they sat down and started to strum their guitars. That’s when Trent slowly started to sing the first half of the lyrics.
“I sit here looking down this road
All I can think of is how beautiful she is
No matter where I go or how far I walk
There she is
Walking down the road with Ana
Talking and singing
Oh how beautiful can one woman be
She looks at me so beautifully
Makes me wonder how wonderful she is
Along this road with Ana”
Ana then put in after him as she kept her eyes on him as she started to sing the next lines that came in the form of the woman speaking to him.
“When you look at me
What do you see?
Did you see all that was there?
This road goes on forever
But are you willing to walk it all
With me?
Do you realize how hard it’s been?
For me to just let you go?”
He looked away as he strummed a couple of times before looking back up at her with a softer tone in both his voice and eyes.
“I see the sun
I see the ocean
Everything that makes you perfect in
My eyes.
I’d walk a thousand miles
As long as I’m with you.
I’d do anything
Just to say I love you…”
After the song was over Ana looked over at him with tears in her eyes, “Do you really mean that?” She asked as a tear fell.
He wiped it away, “I would never lie to anyone especially you when I say something like that. I am in love with you, Anastasia. I’ve loved you since the moment I met you.” He then kissed her lips softly as the crowed roared in cheers.
